After School Care Field Week

For the last week of school, one of my co-workers, at an after school care program thought we should have a field week competition for the kids. We talked to our boss about it, and she loved the idea! My co-worker, Erin, and I started thinking more about what we should for the field week. We thought about splitting the kids up into teams, with equal amounts of each grade on every team, and thought of a couple game they could do. Since I am a planner, I wrote down all the kids and organized them into teams of 9.

Since the field week was going to be a week (4 school days), I thought of events they could do each day. We wanted some games to be like a competition, but didn't want all of them to be competitive. (C) means competitive game, (NC) means non-competitive game
Monday:
(C) Marble Pickup
With marbles in a kiddie pool, kids pick up marble with their toes, and puts it into a bucket. Whichever team gets the most marbles wins.
(C) Three Legged Race
(NC) Duck, Duck, Splash!
Normal Duck, Duck, Goose, but when child A goes to say goose, water balloon must pop over child B’s head to show that s/he is goose.
(NC) Crab Walk Races
(NC) Water Balloon Pick Up
Pick up the broken pieces of water balloon, most collect pieces wins

Tuesday:
(C) Egg and Spoon Race
Each team gets a plastic egg, and has to race to the cone and back. Once EVERYONE has raced down and back with the egg, that team wins.
Mummified Race
(C) Mummified Race
One person on each team gets wrapped up like a mummy and has to TRY to walk to race down, around a cone, and back to their teammates.
(C) Tug O’ War
With a rope, or two or three jumpropes tied together, and a kiddie pool in the middle, kids must try to pull the other team into the kiddie pool
(NC) Water Balloon Toss
Children pair up with partner and tosses balloon to partner, and partner is suppose to catch balloon, and the pair takes a step back, and repeat till water balloon pops.
(NC) Water Balloon Pick Up
Pick up the broken pieces of water balloon, most collect pieces wins

Wednesday (BIG WATER DAY!):
(C) Sponge Race
Two buckets at each end, one filled with water, and the other empty, with kids lined up in the middle. Sponge must be dunked into the bucket filled with water, passed down the line to the empty bucket. The sponge must be squeezed out, and whoever squeezed
(C) Tic-Tac-Toe Relay
9 hula hoops are laid out in a tic tac toe board, 2 teams compete against each other, in a line, behind a cone. Each team gets 3 colors of sponges/t shirts. Kids will race down to tic- tac-toe board against the other team, once the shirt gets placed in a hula hoop, team member must go back. Next team member will do the same as the first, the third will do the same as the second. If Tic-Tac-Toe is not made all t shirts are gone, the tshirt can be picked up by next team member and throw it into a empty spot, do this till Tic- Tac- Toe is made.
(NC) Water Balloon Musical Chairs
Normal Musical Chairs, but with water balloons in chairs
(NC) Water Balloon Pick Up
Pick up the broken pieces of water balloon, most collect pieces wins

Thursday:
(C) Penguin Walk
Each team has a balloon and has to put the balloon between his/her legs, and race to the cone and back to their teammates, and pass the balloon to their teammates. Once EVERYONE has raced down and back, that team wins.
(C) Water Relay
Exactly like Sponge Race but with cups.
(NC) Water Limbo
Use a watering hose as the stick, and kids have to limbo under the water shooting out of the hose
(NC) Water Balloon Pick Up
Pick up the broken pieces of water balloon, most collect pieces wins
---ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS!---

Watching movies inside while it rained
Of course, it rained on Monday and Thursday, so we had to stay inside sadly, but the kids got to watch a movie, play with legos, bingo, and a game my boss taught me when I was little called "Find My Nametag".

At the end of each competitive game, we marked off which team won that game, and the winning team got Spirit Stick, and could hold that title of the Spirit Stick winners till next year. This year team blue won the spirit stick!

I tried to take as much photos as possible, but I forgot (oops!), and most of the games were water games, and didn't want the change to get it wet.

Feel free to use this as an outline for your field day, or field week, or even a family competition during the summer!
